The Creation of Sedimentary Rock!

Here is the voice thread. In this rock creation, the rock created from the last part of the creation was made into something different. It was transformed into a Metaphoric rock. You take the Sedimentary rock and place it into a Quesadilla maker. This is when you place the "heat and pressure" as Mrs. D says. The heat and pressure makes the final changes into the different type of rock. The end result comes out to be a Sedimentary rock that looks like a colorful pizza.

The Creation of Metaphoric Rock!

Here is the voice thread. In this voice thread you watch all the children participate as they help Mrs. Williams create the Metaphoric Rock. The first step is placing down a sheet of wax paper as a base. Then each child helped by placing a layer of shredded crayons which represents the layers of the rock. After each child has placed the layer another piece of wax paper is placed on top. Then the "rock" is placed on a Quesadilla maker. This helps create the heat and the pressure which changes the Metaphoric rock which makes it a Sedimentary rock.

Creation of Igenous Rocks!

Here is the voice thread. In this voice thread you see the steps of creating the Igneous rock. Each child gets to participate and help create the rock. You start out using the heat can to melt the crayons which represents the melting lava of the volcano. Each child then walks up to the can and places their crayon in the volcano adding to the lava. The when the crayons melts it represents the lava. When the volcano "erupts" it creates the rocks. Mrs. Williams shows how the different formations of the rocks are made either smooth or bumpy. The smooth rock is created over the water and the bumpy is created over the ice.

Creating Metaphoric and Sedimentary Rocks!

This is a video about the creation of Sedimentary and Metaphoric rock. In this video the creation of the different types of rocks are expanded and discussed. The children also get to name the layers of the Metaphoric rock which leads to a spirited debate. This video like the last one is very informative.

The Creation of the Igenous Rock!

This is a video of the presentation of the creation of the Igneous rock. Mrs. Williams explains the creation of the rock from the center of the Earth. The creation of volcanoes and how mountains are created is also explained here.

Welcome!

Welcome! This blog is dedicated to the wonderful Mrs. Williams. I recently got to watch her present the rock cycle to a group of children at the Corpus Christi Montessori School. She presented this projected to a group of 1st through 3rd graders. She explained the different kinds of rocks and how they are formed. She had a interactive presentation. She allowed the students to involve themselves in the presentation. This blog is broken into parts from the presentation. It also contains the video from the presentation. Here is a picture of the rock cycle as we go through in this project.
